[I wrote this Blog yesterday, as the Full Moon was peaking and through it’s peak. –pk]

Dear Friends,

In a few hours, the Cancer Moon is moving to opposition to the Capricorn Sun, at 25+ degrees of the Cancer-Capricorn axis tonight on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014 at 11:52 PM EDT.

Emotions are running high and though we’re past the peak of the energy continues to spill over the next couple of days like a wave that crests and then crashes, splashes and spills over.

The Moon represents our inner emotional landscape and needs. In its home sign Cancer, the themes surrounding domestic issues, home, nourishment, food, children, family, mother, security — emotional and financial are likely to be surfacing, making us all too aware of our needs, perhaps “insecurities.”

Cancer is water, emotional energy, in its most physical state. (Scorpio is water energy in a state of transformation, while Pisces is water energy in its most ethereal, permeable state.)

A child will laugh if he or she is happy, cry if he or she feels pain, hunger, sadness, discomfort, and then after a solid cry will go back to his or her natural balanced state. But from the time we are children, one tries to pacify the child and stop it from crying, preventing the natural process of releasing emotion.

This continues as we grow as young children, to adults, as we spend our energy trying to avoid or suppressing painful emotions, through denial, avoidance, medication, which are then stored as energy that has never found its natural release. Then, depending on the level of suppression and/or denial, the slightest trigger can release a tsunami of historic emotion, clouding one’s perception of reality in the present. Or worse, manifest as health problems and psychosomatic issues.

As long as we are mortal beings, pleasure and pain are a reality of life. It is the contrast that allows one to feel either. And until we recognize all emotions as a natural part of the human experience, we will forever be running from shadows.

Full and New Moons seed the energy, for two weeks, till the next lunation. This Cancer Full Moon brings us to the culmination of the cycle that began with the Capricorn New Moon on Jan. 1, 2014, and is seeding the energy for the coming two weeks till the Aquarius New Moon on Jan. 31, 2014.

The Moon entered Leo Thursday morning 8:00 AM EST, and things could get dramatic and passionate over the coming days with revelations coming to light. At the time of this lunation, Venus will be in nearly exact square aspect to Mars, and Mercury is applying in a sextile to Uranus.

With Venus in Capricorn (sign of Mars’ exaltation) and Mars in Venus’ home sign Libra, so we have a mutual reception here. Squares aspects create a sense of tension, but this tension is also what signifies a turning point and imminent resolution.

There may be issues arising surrounding financial situations and a questioning of traditional male-female roles in a relationship, and how they relate with our sense of security.

What was your parents’ or primary’s role model for a relationship like? What does security mean to you, both emotionally and financially? What were parents your parents ideas of success and failure? What is your relationship with your family like? How much of this, consciously or unconsciously, forms the basis of your interactions to others and your relationship with security? Your past may have shaped you, but it does not define you.

This Cancer Full Moon also makes an an exact conjunction to Black Moon Lilith, a point in the sky representing the apogee of the Moon. Lilith represents the darker aspects of the feminine, the parts of her that are “shamed” and there may be raw emotions surfacing, feelings of being cast off, denied, abandoned and or maligned to name a few.

None of this may be easy, and Lilith is a deeply internal process, that works in the shadows. But this is also an opportunity to heal, mother, nurture and re-birth the parts of yourself, that have long been “shamed” or guilted under the guise of “morality.”

Whether you’re experiencing passion or rage, pleasure or pain — these are still your emotions. Take responsibility for them, rather than projecting them on the object of your affection or fury. There may be past relationships, or ghosts of the past resurfacing, asking us to make peace with them so we can move forward with a recognition of what is worth preserving and what needs to be let go of. Even so called failures have been learning lessons and there may be new possibilities arising that we hadn’t previously considered.

A successful relationship is one where each person’s needs are met equally. Healthy relationships are based in love, respect, compromise, equality and interdependence at best. Acknowledge your desires, long-term goals, motivations and needs consciously.

When it comes to financial security, with the Moon in a wide trine to Saturn and conjunction to Jupiter, no matter how precarious a situation feels, there is a sense of being supported and sheltered through the storm. If you’re reading this it’s likely you have access to basic necessities of food and shelter, as represented by Cancer. Beyond that any conflict or sense of scarcity on a financial or emotional level, is likely a conscious or unconscious product of one’s past, and past conditioning.

And the deeper you can go to resolve this within, it will be easier to recognize the potential and respond to reality, breaking patterns of co-dependency. Above all this calls for conscious maturity and taking responsibility for one’s life. Only then can you have the power to effect any change. Then you can communicate honestly with others to clear the air, restoring balance over the next two weeks. Keep an open mind, be honest, listen and be as detached as you can when you speak. The truth may be difficult to digest but it will set you free.

I saw this photo on Facebook today, and the first that came to me was: “now, that’s Capricorn” — and the goat is eating. This photo captures the essence of the Cancer-Capricorn axis: the capabilities of the Capricorn to, like the mountain goat, seemingly defy the law of nature and ascend to impossible heights. But the goat ascends not to race other goats to the top but for a very real purpose — to feed itself.

It doesn’t matter what something looks like on the outside, what matters is how you feel about it on the inside. With the Sun in Capricorn, your goals need to “feed” a deeper need and purpose, without which success will be hollow. Even if the past or one’s childhood has not been a rosy one, until one is able to release it and look back on it with compassion, maturity and forgiveness, it will weigh you down with emotional baggage, impeding your progress.

Nurture what is important, prioritize your goals, rise above insecurities. Then like the mountain goat, you can ascend to your highest potential, against all seeming odds.
